about

RENT021 - the second track from the LP Mould On Velvet

Where to start with this one... definitely not my usual style. Epic, euphoric, triumphant bastard pop with a chopped & screwed influence, and a crushing defeat. Those moments of hope, even just relief, whipped away from u as soon as they arrived. I won't bang on about David Lynch too much.

So yeah, STWD is proper bombastic OST type stuff. I might have not released this one as that cloying, sentimental, almost cheesy vibe could be a bit much on paper but I kept getting goosebumps with it, right up to the point of the boring sequencing-type jobs at the end of making it, and decided I love it. Maybe u just can't argue with brass and Reese bass.

The field recording is from a protest in Chile. I had fun with the UK drill-type 808 glides. I'm also working on a proper chopped & screwed version. Those snares weren't originally meant to sound like gunshots, but tape and compression do strange and holy things. My favourite part is 3:30ish, that little loop up loop up where it gets dark and low.
